Observing Our Food Habits:
The results in the table above show what did we eat during all the 4 times of the day and how much total CO2 it released into the atmosphere. Each food in the table releases different amounts of CO2. this is known as the particular food's 'Carbon Footprint'. By these results, we know that the food we ate in 2 days has a lower rank of carbon footprint as the total CO2 emissions are not very huge in amount. You could find how much CO2 is being released by the food you are eating by clicking on the box in the right. →

To do this, We asked are family members to only eat green for 2 days and avoid unhealthy food. Here are our results.
Ada:
To attempt at eating greener meals, I decreased my meat consumption and aided that by eating greater vegetarian dishes such as curries. I stored my breakfast ingredients the equal as they were the bare minimal to a inexperienced meal.
Compared to my ordinary meals, the greener foods evidently provided a numerical alternate in amount. It’s a lot lesser and understanding this, it makes me feel better knowing it’s a step towards a more moral base foods. Although it did task my taste with the alternate dishes, it wasn’t simply tough to do. I loved my ingredients just like all other ones and they did price a whole lot less expensive compared to before.

Vihaan:
For eating greener, I tried to include more vegetables and fruits in my diet which have more protein and other vitamins as compared to the regular foods which I eat, like for breakfast, rather than having milk and toast, I had vegetable upma with a fresh vegetable juice.
I was now not eager about having solely the inexperienced juice in general because of the bottle gourd but it was very tasty and the bottle gourd was not substantial in it. Me and my household felt a lot lighter as compared to regular after ingesting green meals for a while. Though they require more time to be made, however having them is well worth the efforts.

Rajasvi:
My greener meal consists of greater proteins and calcium. I did not change my regular meal a lot as my breakfast and lunch are almost identical. However, I tried to eat salad in dinner which is healthier. I enjoyed my greener meal and consuming these did make my food more cost-effective compared to before.

Tamanna:
My greener meals consisted of more protein while still retaining other members of the food groups as I wanted. I feel happier and healthier having implemented these changes into my diet, it was difficult trying to incorporate all these components into my meals as I am not a big eater however, knowing that I’m consuming a healthy, ethically produced meal that will help my lead a healthier lifestyle is very rewarding.

All of us felt great and light by eating something different from our daily routine but some of us felt tired and uncomfortable. The cost was less as compared to the high rates of meat and chicken and was tasty too. So eating green is a win-win situation in consideration of all aspects including cost, taste and health.
Interviews:
For the interviews, We have asked specific questions to one of our parent and to an expert in this field. We have then compared the interviews.
Interviewed - Vijayan Balakrishnan (Parent of Tamanna Vijayan) on 5th January 2022, Wednesday
1. What do you think constitutes in a green meal? Ans) A green meal should consist of vegetables and protein meats. For growing children, a green meal is exceedingly important to give them strength. 2. Where do you stand on the ‘only meat is healthy and sufficient to form a healthy diet as compared to ‘veggies and meat’ to diet debate? Ans) personally believe a healthy diet is an ‘all rounded’ diet. It should have one component from each food group. Only meat will not suffice and the person will not get proper amount of vitamins and nutrients. 3. What do you think is the right amount of vegetables required in a meal? Ans) I think a meal should be divided with meat and vegetables equally, personally being a meat lover myself, I would wish to have a meal with more meat, however a meal should be balanced and healthy. 4. Our own experiences have came to a conclusion that maintaining greener meals is hard as the things we eat have become somewhat like habits… how do you believe we can maintain to keep our meals greener? Ans) Eating and purchasing ethically raised produce, eating balanced meals, not eating food with too many preservatives or sugar. 5. How have you found out what meats are ethically produced? Ans) Our family buys from reliable stores that have a ‘ethical policy’ on all their products, everything is fresh and safe, however if we ever were to switch to another vendor, reading the policies of the company would be a must. 6. Is going vegan better or worse for the environment? Ans) A vegan diet lowers the carbon content of a diet as compared to a meat eaters, therefore it is better for the environment, however it must be followed strictly and it requires discipline. |
Interviewed - Priya Anand on 5th January 2022, Wednesday. An ACSM certified Nutritionist specializing in Sports Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition and Weight management. Been practicing for last 6 years.
Meats are not green at all for the planet. they’re not important for your body, hence aren’t essential to us. Its not considered green as to digest it, the body works extra hard in order to burn the carbs and protein. It produces a lot of carbon emissions in the process from the body alone..(that's aside from the process of cooking meat and such) it gives no recharge to our energy, not feeling lighter, slightly sluggish if overly consumed - opposite for greener meal purpose. they bring higher risks of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) therefore cannot fall under green meal category. eggs can be somewhat excepted as it doesn’t bring as much harm or emits as much carbon as animal meat. going vegan? - no need. not equipped to get all nutritious. hard to adapt. doesn’t always consist of some vitamins therefore unnecessary. ethical meat? - possible to produce ethical meat but for the large mass of people, it cannot be done for everyone, hence can’t be considered green no matter what. - seafood has less gastrointestinal tract(in the gut of our body), but still is accountable for emission of carbon. green meal consists: - balance for non veg peeps - blend of everything, 20% nutrition at least. - the easiest way to keep greener meal is to accompany your meals with a salad. its the most efficient step to a greener meal. - preserved food is very good as stored during its prime, therefore carrying all its nutrients that keep body healthy and energized. conflicting as greener meals are more expensive. - although true, maintaining greener meal will provide a long-term benefit. One wouldn’t require any additional expenses to be spent on medicine as health is benefited alongside environment. it would save cost in the long run, therefore should still be encouraged. |
SDG Activity:
SDG (Sustainable development goals) are global goals introduced by the United Nations which unite 193 countries around the world. They are goals which could make earth a better place for everyone to live. These goals mainly include Gender Equality, No Hunger, Elimination of Poverty, Equal Education and many such things.
You can click on this image on the right to watch a video which explains about more of these goals→ In conclusion the SDG has come a long way to the extent of where it has brought together all the countries to follow a regime. Earlier, these goals were not followed as there was lack of concern for the future, there was not enough panic, the video spreads awareness about SDG’s importance. |
Conclusion:
In the final analysis, Making your meals greener is a hard task which will require discipline and ( based on your current eating habits) an entire lifestyle change, however to those with an open mind to the idea it is as easy as simply implementing more veggies and fruits into your daily food calendar. Adding at least one constituent from each food group will help lead a healthier lifestyle and a greener one, taking only as much food as you would eat normally also helps as it reduces wastage.
Comparison And Reflection:
Comparison:
The table below mentions the main similarities and differences between the students from both countries, India and Netherlands which we were able to interpret from the video conferences.
differences are, that the timings of the meals of the European students and the Indian students are different. There are equal amount of similarity and differences. As for the research methods, we used books, the internet, and primary sources like asking them itself
Reflections:
Ada :
EUMIND was a new experience overall. I was given the opportunity to interject and befriend new people that were my group members. At the start, our communication was limited, we were awkward but as time progressed, we became more open and interactive. Our activities had flowed smoothly, albeit with extra time. I admit, the deadlines were hard to meet - especially during the beginning, but our teamwork and efficiency improved along the way. We had the opportunity to speak with Netherlands students and the meeting was conducted online. Our interviews went well without a hitch, especially with a nutritionist. It enlightened us about the truth behind green meal diets and the likes, we were able to shoot down false claims and grasp the right set of information regarding our topic. Our progress throughout was a constant, gradual pace, but nonetheless, our data was specific and relative to our topic. Photographs and videos didn’t require a lot of time and was provided quickly and accordingly. Our group’s Website came together well and was organized simplistically but with reasonable details. |
Vihaan:
In our group, Everyone have been very co-operative. Though sometimes we could not publish our facts before the due date however we had been done with importing all our records on the website. The conferences have been conducted like bread and butter and throughout the communications between us and the students of Netherlands, we first found it a little hard but they were also done smoothly after a while, without any barriers in our way. For our interviews, We asked questions to a specialist who taught us a lot about consuming green. Our data was well planned so our website looked very promising with colorful and geometrical designs. We found it a little difficult to locate the right photos for our subject however with looking out for a long time, We were able to find the best photographs which went with our topic and the theme of our website. |
Ved: The eumind project was very fun, it was my second time doing it and I would do it for the 3rd time . You get to meet new friends, while increasing the awareness of the problems we face. All our group members were dedicated to finish the tasks and reach the deadlines , our group was very United and this made it very easy to design our Weebly page. Rajasvi: We worked effectively together and we all were helpful to each other. Everything went smoothly and what all we had expected. When we were doing the first part of our work, we felt like it’s we did a great job. Every group member submitted their work at their earliest we all were very dedicated towards this project also our collaboration with the students of Netherlands went extremely great. We gave our best to design our Weebly website. Overall, it was a very good experience |
Tamanna:
I have learnt to work with new people and improved my socializing skills and teamwork skills. My team was very supportive and helpful. Our collaboration with the Netherlands students was a success and I learnt about a new culture and it’s traditions when it comes to meals. My overall reflection on the entire program is that I have learnt a lot about greener meals and have implemented them into my lifestyle to improve my quality of life. Prior to this activity I did not realize how much wastage of food I was causing, I learnt that a green meal can consist of meat as well, despite others beliefs. A greener meal leads to a greener life and a greener life makes a better planet. |
